Italian Chapel Lamb Holm

The Italian Chapel is a Roman Catholic chapel on Lamb Holm with a nicely decorated interior. The chapel was built in World War II by Italian prisoners-of-war who were captured in North Africa. They were brought to Orkney to construct the Churchill Barriers. The chapel was build in a camp for 200 prisoners-of-war. Of the other buildings, only the concrete foundations remained.

Nowadays the building is still used as a chapel and is a popular tourist attraction, receiving over 100,000 visitors every year.
