Memorial Stone Scheltemalaan 3

These memorial stones are here for war victims, deported and/or murdered in the Second World War. They are often placed as an alternative to the official Stolpersteine of Gunter Demnig's project. Where there is no Stolperstein but people still want to commemorate, this memorial stone is used. In most cases, the stones are located in front of the last known residential address of the victims.

On 20-02-2019, one Memorial Stone was placed in Amersfoort for:

EMMA VAN DILLEWIJN, murdered in Ravensbrück on 06-03-1945.

Emma van Dillewijn works as a foster care inspector for Maatschappij Zandbergen in Amersfoort. The children's homes Korhoen and Zandwijk are located on the Scheltemalaan where she lives. Emma visits foster families in the country and therefore has a large network to accommodate children and people in hiding. The children's homes are filling up, Jewish children are given a pseudonym. In 1944, police officers and NSB members Cabalt and Beumer were ordered to search the house at Scheltemalaan 3.
On March 8, 1944, Emmy van Dillewijn is arrested for hiding seven Jewish people in hiding. Emma goes via Camp Westerbork to Ravensbrück, where she dies on March 6, 1945.

At the same address are 3 memorial stones in memory of Jewish pupils in hiding:
Hans Gerd Angress, carpenter's assistant, murdered in Schoppnitz on 31-10-1943
Erich Julius Weil, pupil, murdered in Auschwitz on 05-10-1942
Cornelia Maria Klein, pupil, murdered in Sobibor on 21-05-1943
