Commonwealth War Graves Simonshaven

The cemetery of the protestant church in Simonshaven contains the graves of two British airmen. The two British airmen were part of the crew of the Wellington P9232 of 9 Squadron. At 6 June 1940 they were on mission to Duisburg. De crew was as follows:

Squadron Leader George E. Peacock
Pilot Officer B.A. James
Pilot Officer S.W. Webster
Pilot Officer B.A. James
Leading Aircraftman C. Murton
Sergeant A.K. Griffiths
Sergeant Ronald C. Hargrave
Sergeant A.K. Griffiths

Soon after crossing the Dutch coastline the airplane was hit by a Flak anti aircraft gun and crashed between Simonshaven and Geervliet. Squadron Leader Peacock and Sergeant Hargrave were killed. The other crew members survived the crash and were taken POW by the Germans.
