Memorial Commander William Clarke R.N.

This memorial, within the St. Mary's Church, commemorates Commander William Clarke R.N.who gave his life on 7 November 1804 in the Coalition Wars. He was Commander of the Ship Iris and was killed in an attack upon a Dutch ship of superior force in the Indian Ocean. The attack itself was successful.
