Crash Location Vickers Wellington L7802

In the night of 30 to 31 May 1942, an English Vickers Wellington bomber crashed into this location in Elsloo.

The plane was bombed from RAF Finningley Cologne, before it was intercepted on the way back by a German night fighter. The Messerschmitt 110, flown by Leutnant Barte, shot down the English plane that had fired back. The aircraft that burned like a torch came within reach of German anti-aircraft artillery and it shot a number of grenades into the plane. The pilot instructed his crew to leave the plane and jumped last himself. The plane crashed out of control on the corner of Julianastraat and Schoolstraat.
