Clouds Hill

T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) lived in this sober little house.

Lawrence rented this house in 1923 while serving with the Tank Corps. When he returned to the RAF in 1925, he bought it and moved to this house to find the peace he was looking for. T.E. Lawrence has adjusted the whole to his wishes. The outside has been repaired and adjusted; whitewashed brick and tiles and above the front door is the Greek phrase "Why worry?". Today, the interior is still designed as Lawrence left it, including the furniture he designed. The whole is in the possession of The National Trust and can be visited.
