Dead wire Geneuth
Road to Geneuth / Kotem / Maasmechelen

Since 2015 there has been a reconstruction of the dead wire in Geneuth, a district of Kotem / Maasmechelen, without electricity.
In Geneuth there is a sad story on the wire of death witnessed by the whole village:
November 12, 1918, the day after the armistice, Thomas Opsteyn returns home after a four-year flight in the Netherlands. The whole village has gathered to welcome him. His wife Maria Smeets is also waiting for father with her offspring. When father gets off the ferry, the eldest son Hendrik pulls away, because he wants to walk to meet Dad. The war may be over, but there is still power on the wire. 10-year-old Hendrik died instantly.
