Plaque American Prisoners-of-War Deadman's Island

This plaque commemorates 195 American prisoners of war who were buried on Deadman's Island during the War of 1812. They died in the prison on Melville Island.
66 French and 9 Spanish prisoners of war from the Coalition Wars are also buried on the island. The island's use as a burial site gave it the name Deadman's Island.
