Group Shelter Numansdorp I

There are three group shelters around this location.

These Dutch group shelters were intended as shelters and bombing shelters, if the trenches between the shelters did not provide enough cover. The principle was based on the method of battle in the First World War. The bunkers were part of the Fortress Holland.

A few dozen group shelters (type 1 of part II from the VIS) were built between February and May 1940. Due to the haste in delivery, these bunkers are smaller than, for example, at the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie.

These personnel bunkers were called 'Pyramids' by the Germans, because of the shape of the bunker.
