Memorial 'Post Poddie'

The text on the plaque:

Post Poddie

From the summer of 1944 until after liberation the signals unit of the (war-time) Domestic Forces in the Netherlands (‘Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten’) had its seat in this building: Post District Three (also know as ‘Poddie’). Before that period the listening post was situated on the opposite site of the road in the house above the Oosterpoort. Twenty people worked in shifts to keep in touch with the resistance in the local area and in other districts, regarding for instance the local drop zones for weapon drops. Jo Iepenga, pseudonym Jasper, was in charge. The sound-proof and insulated scullery could only be reached through a hatch in the hall and an underground passage. The photograph shows is Marie Iepenga-Brouwer.
