Italian War Graves Cementery of Lecce

Dotted around within the cemetery are individual graves of soldiers.
One of the graves hidden in the shade of cypresses just behind the screen wall of the main monument encapsulates all the drama of the two world wars, that of two brothers Luigi and Carlo Falco.
Gigi was a Second Lieutenant in the 33rd Artillery Regiment, and was killed in the final stages of the war on 25 October 1918 while fighting on Monte Grappa.
Carlo served with the 1423 Machine Gun Company in Albania, earning a War Cross for Military Valor and he survived the First World War. He went on to have a distinguished career in the Royal Italian Army. Promoted to the rank of Major in the 139th Infantry Regiment he served during the Second World War, being posted once again to the Balkans. He was killed by a grenade blast whilst in action on the Bubesi Front on 25 January 1941.
Today they rest in eternal peace, 2 brothers, side by side.
