German Tombstones Eksaarde

The cemetery of Eksaarde contains two German tombstones of the First World War. The bodies were exhumed and reinterred at the German War Cemetery of Vladslo.

The gravestone on the left commemorates Johann Häufle:
"Rest here
Landwehrmann Johann Häufle
of I. Bavarian Landwehr
Infantry Regiment
G. Company.
He died a hero's death
for the German homeland
on October 12, 1914"

The gravestone on the right commemorates Johann Maier:
"Rest here
Landwehrmann Johann Maier
From I. Bavarian Landwehr
Infantry Regiment
2. Company
He died a hero's death
for the German homeland
on October 9, 1914"
