Info board 75 Years Liberation WWII Lichtaart

In 2019 it was 75 years ago that Belgium was Liberated by the Allied forces.
In this context, Tourism Province of Antwerp organized various activities related to the Liberation in collaboration with Liberation Route Europe. Together with the participating cities and municipalities, a themed brochure with local stories supplemented with photos was made. Information boards were placed at 48 historical locations, each with a local theme.

Theme Lichtaart: A German defense belt around Union Miniere

During the Second World War, there was an anti-aircraft position in Lichtaart to defend the Union Miniere factory in Olen. This factory was important to the Germans because it processed ores that were important in the development of nuclear weapons.
