The memorial was erected in remembrance of the four crew members of the B-25 Mitchell Mark II FW224 98 Squadron RAF that crashed on this spot on 2 February 1945

and in remembrance of the seven crew members of the Hallfax III HX 267 466 Squadron RAAF that crashed in Zemst 28th May 1944. Only one crew member Sergeant COX A.J. survived the crash.
