Ferry Looveer

During the Second World War, a ferry, the Saint Christopher, sailed here. Hundreds of French soldiers were secretly transported in its hold. The French had escaped from German captivity. After the airborne landings in September 1944, ferry operator Wim Martens sank the ferry. As a result, the Germans were unable to transfer tanks and troops to the Looveer.
