Cycle Route Wings of Freedom: Crash Site Typhoon Mk Ib, MP183

On 28-11-1944 Anthony Frombolo leaves at 9.00 hrs from airfield Eindhoven in order to attack a train in the Goch area. His mission is successful and the rails are
destroyed partially. On his way back he is attacked heavily by anti-aircraftguns, but he does not get hit. At 11.30 hrs he flies again for a dive attack on the rails, but
this time he was hit by the anti-aircraftgunfire.

The pilot makes an emergency landing with his parachute and lands very near his plane. He is taken prisoner. In the village of Aijen nobody has witnessed this. He is taken to the house of the Van Lisdonk family, where he gets questioned.
For years there has been a patch in the middle of the land where nothing would grow, because of the large amount of petrol that had leaked into the soil.

The crash took place at the coordinates: 51.578999, 6.042887.

In collaboration with the municipalities of Bergen, Gennep, Mook-Middelaar and Weeze, the initiative was created for cycling routes 'Wings of Freedom' along crash locations.
In the four municipalities, 28 crash sites have been definitively confirmed. Near each crash site is a memorial sign with information about the cause of the crash. Using the network of cycling nodes, there are four routes of approximately 30 - 40 km. deployed along these places.
