Cycle Route Wings of Freedom: Crash Site Typhoon Mk Ib, MN169, Code SF

Operation Market Garden had not become as successful as had been hoped for, but the German region was bombed daily and constantly. On September 28 there were reconnaissance flights again.
The allied forces would cross the border in the future and everything that could hinder them was shot to pieces.

The formation of 8 Typhoons was making a flight over the position of the anti-aircraftguns and Henry T. Nicholl’s plane was hit. He jumped out and was taken prisoner. He had sustained serious burns, could barely walk and was taken to the Goch hospital on a bike. However, before he went there he had identified his (dead) colleague, David Guttridge.

The crash took place at the coordinates: 51.659832, 5.990771.

In collaboration with the municipalities of Bergen, Gennep, Mook-Middelaar and Weeze, the initiative was created for cycling routes 'Wings of Freedom' along crash locations.
In the four municipalities, 28 crash sites have been definitively confirmed. Near each crash site is a memorial sign with information about the cause of the crash. Using the network of cycling nodes, there are four routes of approximately 30 - 40 km. deployed along these places.
