Nuri Yamut Memorial

Nuri Yamut was the commander of II Corps at the time of the Gallipoli Campaign (1915-1916). He had this monument built in 1943 in memory of the 6,395 Ottoman soldiers who fell between 26 June and 12 July 1915. The monument also functions as a charnel house. The bones were excavated between 1934 and 1936.
