Memorial Longest Bailey Bridge - Lambrechtsen Bridge

On the 11th of May 2022 a monument was revealed in the presence of Major Edwin 'Ted' Hunt to commemorate the longest build Bailey-Pontoon bridge with a length of 1222 meter

As part of Operation Veritable it was necessary to build as fast as possible a bridge over the river Meuse, so that English Soldiers and Material could attack towards the Rheine river.

The dams in the River Ruhr as well as heavy rainfall resulted that the water in the river Meuse was very high.

The Engineers started on the 12th of February with building and they finished it on the 20th of February.
This bridge was build under the leadership of major Hunt, Royal Engineers and the Dutch Lieutenant Constant Lambrechtsen van Ritthem who was a civil engineer with the Government. They started already their planning by the end of 1944.

Picture 3 shows a model of the bridge and in picture 4 an Arial overview of the finished bridge can be seen.

Picture 5 shows Major Hunt in a jeep will getting ready to cross the river on a pontoon from the Dutch Engineers to reveal the monument on the Gennep side
