Belgian War Graves Jamoigne

There are still three war graves at the Jamoigne cemetery.

Nestor MAITREJEAN : died for his country in Calais on December 6, 1918.
This militia soldier was included in the 6th Artillery Regiment, 97th Battery stationed in the Géruzet barracks in Etterbeek (Brussels). During the war he took part in specific training as an artilleryman for 1 month. This training focused on the use of new medium caliber guns and howitzers...
During the long period of the Battle of the Yser, his regiment, together with the 6th Belgian Army Division, was deployed in the various sectors of our front.
On the night of April 9 to 10, 1918, Nestor Maitrejean was seriously injured in the Nieuwpoort sector. He was taken to the hospital "L'Océan" in De Panne on the Belgian coast, where he was treated and then continued a long rehabilitation.
On November 22, 1918, 11 days after the armistice, he contracted pneumonia and was admitted to the Belgian clinic at the Porte de Gravelines in Calais.
On December 6, 1918, Private First Class Maitrejean lost his life and was buried in the northern cemetery of the city of Calais.
After the intervention of Lieutenant General Richard, the remains were exhumed and transferred to the municipal cemetery of Jamoigne.
The transfer took place during a patriotic ceremony in early December 1922.

Camille ROSSIGNOL : Sergeant 5th Ardennes Chasseurs 3rd Bat 8th Comp
Killed in Deinze on 25 May 1940 in the 2nd echelon during the battle for the division of the Leie and the Schipdonk Canal.

Edgar ROUYER: priest, arrested by the Germans in April 1944.
First imprisoned in Vught transit camp. Died as a martyr in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945.
