Former Military Barracks "Prinz Carl"

The barracks were built in 1897 and the 4th Hessian Infantry regiment 118 "Prinz Carl" was located here. After the First World War, the French occupation forces took over and it was not in use for a while until the German Wehrmacht took over in 1936 and renamed it the "Kemmel Kaserne".

After the Second World War, German POWs were housed there for a while and afterwards the American army took over the barracks from the French army. They were then called the "Taukan Barracks" which was closed in 1996, after which from 2000 the complex was developed into a hotel and business location.
