Davis-Monthan Air Force Base

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base was built in 1925 as Davis-Monthan Landing Field. The airport was renamed Tucson Municipal Airport in 1927. The Army Air Corps took control on December 3, 1941, renaming it to Davis-Monthan Field.

Major expansions of the base were completed in January 1943, followed by another extension in December 1944. Davis-Monthan Field first provided training to B-24 and B-29 crewmen.
