Fort Carson

Fort Carson was built in 1942 as a training base for mechanized divisions. In January 1943, a POW camp for 3,000 prisoners was added here. This camp was later expanded to a capacity of 8000 prisoners. In May 1943, the Womens Army Corps (WAC) trained here. Fort Carson is still operational.
