Memorial Mathieu Speetjens
In the side wall of the chapel on 't Rooth, a plaque has been attached that commemorates resistance fighter Mathieu Speetjens. He used to live nearby, but his parental home was demolished when the marl quarry was expanded.
Mathieu Speetjens was a resistance fighter who was arrested on July 7, 1944 after being betrayed and eventually murdered on March 5, 1945 in Mauthausen concentration camp.
