Maudslay was a Squadron Leader pilot with 617 Squadron who took part in Operation Chastise, better known as the Dam Busters raid. He flew as commander of B Flight in Lancaster Z-Zebra against the Eder Dam. Z-Zebras bouncing bomb struck the dam's parapet and the explosion damaged the aircraft. It was later hit by anti-aircraft fire at Emmerich before crashing at Klein-Netterden with the loss of the entire crew. He is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
