Roadblock Visé

Le barrage du câble Vi11 II. Translated as blockade with cables.

One would easily pass by not knowing these obstacles are in fact part of history of World war 2.

These cast iron posts are in fact roadblocks. They were placed at 25 meter and 100 meter distance of a bunker. In this case this is the 100 meter roadblock. The two poles who marked the 25 meter roadblock do not longer exist. Also the pole across the street, does not longer exist.

An iron cable could be tensioned between the two posts so traffic could be halted and obstructed. During the years before the 2nd world war these were not only cars but also horses with carriage, ore heavy artillery pieces

The posts are numbered and coded. These post is number 32 and coded with V11 II. The code would refer tot the nearby bunker Vi 11 (Visé 11).

The bunker was part of sector Visé of the 3rd line of defence for the City of Liège. Le Position Fortifiée de Liège', PFL 3.

For another example of these roadblocks see article roadblock near bunker Ag1.
