War Monument Yvoir

The monument to the victims of the 1914-18 war stands at the entrance to the school.
Its creation was decided in 1919 by the municipal council. Fundraising continued until 1923, when plans were drawn up. It was finally in 1924 that the inauguration of the monument took place, in the presence of many authorities.
The plans were drawn by the architect Dony, while the execution was entrusted to Mr. Goblet, a contractor from Yvoir, and Henri Warolus, a sculptor from Spontin.
The stone monument has the shape of a 6 meter long triptych. The central panel shows national emblems: the coat of arms of Belgium with the lion between the royal crown and a laurel wreath.
On the left are the names of those executed and political prisoners.
In the middle are the names of the fallen soldiers of the two world wars, on the right the names of the deportees and civilian victims.
