Memorial Plaque Isaia Stefano Dronero

Memorial plaque:
" This was done here on January 2, 1944
shot by the Nazi fascists
ISAIA STEFANO
The People's Junta
In memory "

Samanta Rovera, great-granddaughter of Isaia, tells how it happened.

" Isaia was cycling home after celebrating New Year's Eve. Friends had invited him to visit them because the Germans were conducting a raid and he risked his life on the street. Stefano did not listen because his mother was waiting for him and she would worry. When he noticed the group of German soldiers, he continued on foot to cross the stream secretly, but unfortunately they saw him and ordered him to stop.
He tried to escape but they hit his leg to stop him.
They shot him even though they saw that he was just a scared boy.
Still, Stefano had a German pass because he worked at the Falci steel factory in Dronero, but he did not have time to use this document in an emergency. He died just behind his house and when his mother heard the cries, she ran to him, but there was nothing she could do. "
