Commonwealth War Grave Piershil

The protestant churchyard in Piershil contains one Commonwealth war grave. It's the grave of Pilot Officer Robert Echlin from Ottawa (Canada).

On 10 May 1940, the Bristol Blenheim L1401 (600 Squadron) crashed at Piershil. The pilot of the airplane, Flying Officer Hugh Rowe could be rescued from the burning wreckage bij Dutch soldiers. Air Gunner Echlin could not be rescued and lost his life.
