Dutch War Grave Dutch Reformed Cemetery Ter Heijde

At the Dutch Reformed Cemetery in Ter Heijde lies the War Grave of a victim from the Second World War.

This is the grave of:
Jacobus (Jaap) Marinus Koene, gardener, died in Hanau (D) on 02-08-1943.

Jaap was sent to the “Arbeitslager Hanau” in the spring of 1943 as part of the “Arbeidseinsatz”, where he died at the age of 18.
There are two versions of his cause of death: he died in a bombing raid or by drowning.

It was his father's wish that he be reburied in the cemetery of Ter Heijde. This happened on 2 August 1951, exactly eight years after his death. In December 2013 his name was added to the register of the War Graves Foundation.
