Fokker G-1 May 1940

On May 10, 1940, three Fokker G-1s made an emergency landing on the beach here, due to fighting around Waalhaven airfield and lack of fuel.
These were the Fokker 311-328 and 329.
During the following days, they were shot at and bombed on the beach and were therefore completely disabled.
During their only flight, they managed to shoot down eight German aircraft.
The French nickname for the aircraft was 'Le Faucheur', the mower.
