In the English church in Ostend hang several memorials for the two world wars.
There are two memorials and a Belgian flag for the Brigade Piron that fought with the British liberation army in the Second World War.
There are also several memorial plaques and a flag for the Belgian navy that fought with the Royal Navy in the Second World War.
Two other memorial plaques list the names of the victims of the navy and those of the armed trawler HMS Hayburn Wyke that was sunk by a German submarine on New Year's Day 1945. That night 22 sailors lost their lives, barely two survived the disaster.
There is also a memorial in memory of those who gave their lives during the blockade of the port of Zeebrugge by H.M.S. Vindictive and the three cruisers Ipheginia, Intrepid and Thetis on 23 April 1918 and during the blockade of Ostend by H.M.S. Vindictive on 9 May 1918.
Also mentioned is Frederick William Young, a Commodore of the Royal Navy, who died on 20 December 1925. For more than two years after the Armistice he worked on the clearing of the ports of Ostend and Zeebrugge and was able to successfully complete the difficult task of salvaging H.M.S. Vindictive, Iphigenia, Thetis and Intrepid.
