Sack-Time Sally: crash on 26 November 1943
On 26 November 1943, three German Messerschmitts intercepted the US Air Force B-24 Liberator Sack-Time Sally, which was returning from a bombing raid on the industrial area of Bremen.
In the air battle, one Messerschmitt is shot down, but the other two fighters set the bomber on fire. The fire cannot be extinguished. Four of the ten crew members parachute out of the aircraft. Immediately afterwards, there is an explosion and the Sack-Time Sally breaks in two.

One crew member is killed when he crashes into a field on De Tike. The front section of the aircraft crashes into a field near the farm at Kommisjewei 52. The tail section lands on the Swartfean. The six victims are buried in the cemetery at Opeinde. Two surviving airmen fall into German hands; the other two find a place to hide with the help of members of the resistance. When they try to return to England at the end of 1943, they are arrested.
