This information board is part of the Betinkingsrûte WOII '40-'45 unveiled in 2025. Near this location Walter Wince was killed when he jumped from the stricken B24 Liberator Sack-Time Sally. His parachute did not open.

Nothing at the Master Inlawei in De Tike reminds us of 16 November 1943. On that day, a dogfight broke out above the village between the B24 bomber Sack-Time Sally and German fighters.

The Sack-Time Sally managed to shoot down one of the German Messerschmitts, but lost the battle. The American plane crashed in Opeinde. Side gunner Walter Wince jumped out of the plane, but his parachute caught fire and failed to open. He crashed into a field.

All this takes place at one o'clock in the afternoon. Children are on their way to school. They first see the dogfight and then the young American lying dead in a field. The eyewitnesses never forget this impressive event: seventy years later, they can still recount exactly what happened.
