La Réole Prison

This former prison was used by the French gendarmerie during the Second World War. British RM commando Conway was locked up here on 21 December 1942, while commando MacKinnon was sent to the local hospital for his knee. The Sicherheitsdienst arrested them with a great show of force (this event was preceded by a siege of the prison and the hospital).

The prison can be visited.
