Ladder Hill Fort

Ladder Hill fort was originally known as Fort Hill by the East India Company, who occupied the island in 1659, and was frequently used to hang criminals so that they were in full view of the people of Jamestown. The seaward defences were commenced i the 1790s under Governor Blake and further strengthened during the period of Napoleon's imprisonment. The fort and the attached pre-war battery have commanding views over Jamestown Bay.
