The Jewish Cemetery of Marburg dates back to the 18th century and contains over 300 graves. In September 1939, at the start of World War II, Marburg had 115 Jewish residents remaining after many had emigrated. Most of them were murdered during the Holocaust, along with Jews from the surrounding municipality. At least two graves of camp survivors can be found in the cemetery. Today, there is once again a small Jewish community of over 300 members in the city.
