This is a reconstructed section of the Gudrunstilling, one of three German defence lines (along with the Brunhild and Kriemhild lines) built in southern Jutland from August 1944. The anti-tank ditch is approximately 4 metres deep, 2 to 3 metres wide at the bottom and 5 to 6 metres wide at the top. Its purpose was to stop Allied vehicles and tanks in the event of an invasion from the north.
Construction:
The ditch was dug by hand, using simple tools such as shovels and wheelbarrows. The work was carried out by a mix of German soldiers, prisoners of war and local Danish residents. Timber for the construction was taken from the surrounding forests, often without the permission of the local population.
Location:
The ditch is located in the Lintrup Præsteskov forest area, along the Kongeå valley, close to a small lake called “Viggos Søer”.
