This plaque on the façade of the Théâtre de la Sinne commemorates Pierre Seel (1923-2005) and other anonymous citizens of Mulhouse who were persecuted and deported during the Second World War because of their sexual orientation.
Pierre Seel was arrested in 1941 because of his homosexuality and imprisoned in the Vorbruck-Schirmeck concentration camp in Alsace. After months of mistreatment and hardship, he was released and soon afterwards, as an Alsatian, forced to enlist in the German army from which he deserted after many wanderings and returned home in 1945.
