Former Gestapo and SD House Niort

In Niort, the Sipo-SD (Sicherheitspolizei und Sicherheitsdienst, Security Police and Security Service of the SS) confiscated this house at 12 Rue Alsace-Lorraine, which belonged to the Jewish Léon family. From 1 June 1942, it served as a base for Sipo-SD police officers, French police and gendarmerie, collaborators and French auxiliaries known as VM (Vertraumanner, informants and double agents) who fought the resistance. People were detained and tortured in this house.
