Bomb Crater La Cite d'Alet (Saint-Malo)

This crater, caused by an aerial bomb or other heavy (naval) artillery, probably dates from August 1944, when American and French troops attempted to capture Vauban's fort on La Cité d'Alet.

Regardless of who or what fired the shell or bomb, the crater it caused remains a visible witness to the fighting at that time.
