The furthest German advance between the North Sea and the Swiss border was marked in the years 1922-1925 with 'demarcation posts' at the most important points.
A demarcation post, also called a "front post", is a memorial stone in France and Belgium that indicates approximately how far the German armies advanced during the First World War. A total of 118 demarcation posts were placed. Ninety-four posts have survived: nineteen in Belgium and seventy-five in France.
In France the post is called "Borne Vauthier".
The posts were often sponsored in this case by:
National Union of Veterans, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
