The farmhouse was built in 1900 and, in May 1940, was set up as a so-called "supplementary aid station," or a wounded nest, for the units defending the Betuwe Line. The 2nd Division, 22nd Artillery Regiment was positioned near this aid station.
Wounded men could be transported from an aid station to an aid station by stretcher or vehicle. An aid station was located approximately 2 kilometers behind each regiment's defense line.
During the day of May 11, 1940, the command post of the 2nd Division of the 22nd Artillery Regiment was established in this farmhouse, Huize Oosterveld. The previous location proved to be too close to the command post of Brigade A. Therefore, it was decided to relocate the post.
Barriers were erected around the farmhouse, shelters were constructed, and a position was dug for the ultra-short-wave radio transmitter. Additional support was installed in the cellar of the farmhouse for the cellar vault. The command post was also established here.
This unit was commanded by Major J. Best.
