Command Post 3rd Battalion, 44th Infantry Regiment "De Veluwe"

This farmhouse, "De Veluwe," served as the command post for the 3rd Battalion, 44th Infantry Regiment, during the May days of 1940. The commander was Major J.W.F. Bakhuis.

This unit was part of the Dutch troops that had to defend the Betuwe Line against a German invasion.

On May 13, 1940, at approximately 7:45 PM, Major Bakhuis received orders to withdraw to Everdingen. The withdrawal began around 11:00 PM.
