Stumbling Stones Walstraat 3

These brass plaques (Stolpersteine or Stumbling Stones), laid on 12 June 2025, commemorate:

* JOSEPH FRANKFORT (born 1887, deported 26 October 1942 from Westerbork, murdered 29 October 1942 in Auschwitz)
* HENRIETTE FRANKFORT-ANSCHEL (born 1897, deported 26 October 1942 from Westerbork, murdered 29 October 1942 in Auschwitz)
* EMANUEL FRANKFORT (born 1920, deported 1942 from Westerbork, murdered 28-2-1943 Auschwitz)
* BRUNETTA FRANKFORT (born 1924, deported 26-10-1942 from Westerbork, murdered 29-10-1942 Auschwitz)

These Stolpersteine are laid here for Jewish war victims, persecuted, deported and murdered during the Second World War.

‘Stolpersteine’ is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of the homes of (mostly Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque bears the name of the victim, their date of birth and their fate. In this way, Gunter Demnig provides an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: ‘A person is only forgotten when their name is forgotten.’
