This building housed Léon Noël's bicycle shop until his arrest and death in 1943. During the war, Léon Noël was a member of the Combat Resistance Group. On September 21, 1943, a meeting of various resistance groups took place in his shop, which was raided by the Gestapo. It was likely a betrayal. Léon Noël opened fire on the officers, but was himself wounded by bullets and overpowered. He was arrested along with two other resistance members, Claude Levisalles and Louis Lefers. Noël was tortured at Villa Montfleury. Seriously wounded in the firefight and subsequent interrogation, he was taken to Saint-Dizier Hospital and then returned to Villa Montfleury. A few days later, he died of his wounds at an unknown location and was buried in Nice. In November 1944, he was reburied with great honors in his hometown of Cannes.
