Wormerveer's former town hall was opened in 1828. The building was destroyed by fire in March 1975 and subsequently rebuilt.
The town hall also served as the group headquarters of the Wormerveer Group of the Zaandam Sector (Defense Line of Amsterdam).
In June 1944, the resistance raided the town hall, where the population register was kept. This register was taken and hidden in the attic of a school on Wandelweg. The NSB mayor was tied up during the raid.
