War Memorial Sint-Annaland

The German occupying forces regularly crossed from Schouwen-Duiveland to conduct reconnaissance missions.
On the evening of January 17, 1945, six German soldiers took up positions behind the sea wall near Grote Nol.
A British patrol (H Troop, 247th Battery) was ambushed, and three soldiers were shot dead.
One British soldier managed to escape and raise the alarm.
The soldiers killed were Victor S. Rapley, John L. Brown, and Edward Callan.
