Peristere Beach

On May 14, 1944, German General Kreipe and his captors were picked up on this beach by an SBS team led by George Jellicoe. Two other German prisoners of war and a sick Soviet soldier were also taken by boat. Their destination: Marsa Matruh, Egypt.

Today, a memorial stone stands here with the following inscription:

"Peristere Beach – During WWII, resistance forces assisted by Cretan rebels from 'Rodakino' village transferred German general Heinrich Kreipe from this beach to Egypt."
