"Captain Jellicoe landed with 4 Free French and one Greek officer and O.R.'s from Greek submarine "TRITON" at 0115 hours on 11th June at a point on the coast of CRETE near HERAKLION and re-embarked at KROTOS in H.M.S. "PORCUPINE" on the night of 23/24 June. During his stay in CRETE the force under his command was responsible for the destruction 18 to 20 aircraft (including 14 serviceable J.U. 88's), 2 aero-engines and 2 trucks and damage to a bomb dump.
His cool and resolute leadership, skill and courage throughout this very hazardous operation were mainly responsible for the high measure of success achieved. He personally towed out and sank rubber boats in which the party landed, placed charges on the enemy aircraft and brought off the survivors after the four Free French members of the party had been betrayed and killed or captured."
